Cyberbu//y Questions

Please answer these as a COMMENT to this post:

1. During the first scene, Taylor’s mother says “What you do online isn’t exactly private.” What do you think she meant by that? How true do you think that statement is? Explain your answer.

2. Lindsay leaves a mean comment (Lardo and Dogface) on a picture. There is a chat room where people from the school talk trash. Why do you think it’s easier to say things through internet conversation rather than face-to-face conversation?

3. How do bullies get punished? Do you think cyberbullies should be punished like regular bullies? Why can’t cyberbullies be punished like regular bullies?

4.  Lindsay’s dad defended her cyberbullying by saying it was Lindsay’s right of freedom of speech. Do you think he handled the situation correctly? Why or why not?

5.  Why do you think Samantha finally admitted to Taylor that she was “James”?

6. The counselor says that bullying back “adds fuel to the fire”. What do you think that means? Do you agree or disagree? Explain your answer.

7. Do you think schools should get more involved in helping to prevent cyberbullying? What has your SWA done about this issue? What else SHOULD we do?

She meant that everything you do online is exposed to the world, everyone can see. I think that this statement is absolutely true, because even if you set it as private, people can hack into your account and re-post stuff that you posted.

2. Lindsay leaves a mean comment (Lardo and Dogface) on a picture. There is a chat room where people from the school talk trash. Why do you think it’s easier to say things through internet conversation rather than face-to-face conversation?
Because you can be anonymous online.

3. How do bullies get punished? Do you think cyberbullies should be punished like regular bullies? Why can’t cyberbullies be punished like regular bullies?
I think so, because they're just as bad. Except regular bullies have more bravery as they expose themselves.

4. Lindsay’s dad defended her cyberbullying by saying it was Lindsay’s right of freedom of speech. Do you think he handled the situation correctly? Why or why not?
No. Because if someone did something wrong, no matter who the person is, they should be reminded that they did wrong.

5. Why do you think Samantha finally admitted to Taylor that she was “James”?
Because she finally realized that what she did was really bad to the point where Taylor- her bestfriend tried to kill herself and because she was guilty

6. The counselor says that bullying back “adds fuel to the fire”. What do you think that means? Do you agree or disagree? Explain your answer.
Fifty fifty. I've been cyberbullied, and it does make me want to defend myself from them by saying mean things to them back. But then they just got back to me even more.

7. Do you think schools should get more involved in helping to prevent cyberbullying? What has your SWA done about this issue? What else SHOULD we do?
I think it should be an organization outside of school, because we know people in school and sometimes we're too embarrassed to report these things.

1. During the first scene, Taylor’s mother says “What you do online isn’t exactly private.” What do you think she meant by that? How true do you think that statement is? Explain your answer.
This statement is very very true. Even though, a profile in a social media has been put on private, it's not always safe. Your friends can have access to it and they can be the one who are spreading your private information. Once it's out there, it's going to be really difficult to delete it. Then, everyone would have access to it.

2. Lindsay leaves a mean comment (Lardo and Dogface) on a picture. There is a chat room where people from the school talk trash. Why do you think it’s easier to say things through internet conversation rather than face-to-face conversation?
When you're posting things online, it really tempts us to put inappropriate comments that's because we don't get to see the reaction of the person we're addressing the comments to. A lot of people tend to forget that they are actually speaking to a lot of people when they are talking online.

3. How do bullies get punished? Do you think cyberbullies should be punished like regular bullies? Why can’t cyberbullies be punished like regular bullies?
I do think that bullies should not be punish first. A big possibility of them being a bully is that they have issues in their family. I think bullies should be consulted first and things doesn't get any better. Then, I think they should be punish. Yes, cyberbullies should be punish like a regular bully. Cyberbully is like a bully. And they should get the same consequences as a regular bully. The reason why cyberbullies can not be punish like regular bullies is that sometimes, those bullies tend to change their names and pretend to be someone else. So, it's really hard to see who is the real cyberbully.

4.  Lindsay’s dad defended her cyberbullying by saying it was Lindsay’s right of freedom of speech. Do you think he handled the situation correctly? Why or why not?
Yes, everyone has the freedom to say anything. Lindsay is accused to be the cyberbully without any piece of evidence and this is another reason why Lindsay's dad handled the situation correctly.

5.  Why do you think Samantha finally admitted to Taylor that she was “James”?
The situation had gotten so bad and if she did not admit that it was her someone else will be accused of her action.

6. The counselor says that bullying back “adds fuel to the fire”. What do you think that means? Do you agree or disagree? Explain your answer.
It means that when a victim become a bully and decided to bully back the person that bullies them. Yes definitely. This won't stop the problem, it will just add on to the problem and they will most probably bully a lot more people than they thought they will bully.

7. Do you think schools should get more involved in helping to prevent cyberbullying? What has your SWA done about this issue? What else SHOULD we do?
And As of right now I don't think SWA had done anything toward cyberbullying.

1. Going online is not private at all. This is because what you post stays there, even if you delete it, there are also some websites that allow you to look at an older version of another website.

2. It is easier to say things through a computer for three reasons. 1) Some people hide behind their usernames and think that they are anonymous, 2) some people don't think that they are hurting other people and 3) some people thinks that the victim is powerless to stop them because in face-to-face encounters you can get beat up.

3. Bullies get punished in different ways in different places. Sometimes they get detention, other times they have to do Community and Service or some other thing. Cyberbullies can't be punished the same way because there is no one controlling them. Mostly adults don't even know about it.

4. When defending a cyberbully, it is never the right thing to do unless there is a reason for being mean, and if it is a good reason it might be a bit justified (although not fully). Unless you know the full situation, do not make any accusations or attempts to defend the bully.

5. In this situation, the cyberbully might feel a sense of remorse for the victim, especially if the victim is a close friend. If not for that, the cyberbully might also be a victim and knows what the victim is going through.

6. Bullying back does add fuel to the fire because its very hard to stand up for yourself when being outnumbered. Online you're alone and fighting back doesn't mean you're standing up for yourself, it means you have feelings. Feelings that can be hurt, feelings that are affected by their goading which only makes it worse.

7. Schools should be cracking down on the social websites that their students use. If there is something bad there, contact someone about it. many schools SWA included does nothing (that I know of) to stop cyberbullying. I think that SWA should start using these methods I posted.

1. During the first scene, Taylor’s mother says “What you do online isn’t exactly private.” What do you think she meant by that? How true do you think that statement is? Explain your answer.

because everyone that have internet can access social network including stranger. This is true because in some social network, when you set your setting into private (which means only you can see it ) or friends to friend (which means your friend and your other friend that you don't know (stranger) can see it too). When you set your information into private, everyone that know you can't see it, however if they are good stalker and you are on every social network, they can easily know your email.

2. Lindsay leaves a mean comment (Lardo and Dogface) on a picture. There is a chat room where people from the school talk trash. Why do you think it’s easier to say things through internet conversation rather than face-to-face conversation?

most of the bad thing is not really happen in face to face because some people finding hard and they scared if they are lost in some debating conversation or something. In internet we can think first before we write something, which means that if we are debating, we can think good answer or ask someone to help you. In internet you are invisible, they don't know real you.

3. How do bullies get punished? Do you think cyberbullies should be punished like regular bullies? Why can’t cyberbullies be punished like regular bullies?

Bullieis get punished by put that bullies in jail. However, different causes different punished. In cyberbullies the consequences for putting in jail is not that easy because we need to have clear and strong evidence.

4. Lindsay’s dad defended her cyberbullying by saying it was Lindsay’s right of freedom of speech. Do you think he handled the situation correctly? Why or why not?

no because he don't know what the real happen to his daughter. He don't know what his daougther do to Taylor.

5. Why do you think Samantha finally admitted to Taylor that she was “James”?

because before Samantha admit that she was "James". Taylor want to kill herself because she tired of everything that her friend did to her. Samantha thinks that if she is not admit about it, the situation will getting worst. She scared that if Taylor found out by herself, she wouldn't be friends again with her or she scared that if she is go to jail.

6. The counselor says that bullying back “adds fuel to the fire”. What do you think that means? Do you agree or disagree? Explain your answer.

It means that fire will always get fire, revenge always exist. Of course I disagree about it because situation will getting worst if we revenge again.

7. Do you think schools should get more involved in helping to prevent cyberbullying? What has your SWA done about this issue? What else SHOULD we do?

of course this school should involved in helping to prevent cyberbullying because everyday the students use laptop, we don't really know what they are doing or something. If they are bored or mad, they can easily do something bad to someone. In school, swa blocked facebook or any social network which means that student can't access to any social networks. SWA should have some application that detect student who cyberbullying other student.

1. Being online is not really private because someone can hack you, and even if you delete your post, it still stays on the internet.

2. Saying bad things online is easier than saying it in real life because all you need to do is just type the words, and you have less chance of getting caught. Pretty much I think it's easy as saying things inside your head.

3. Cyberbullies should be punished like regular bullies. They are still bullies even though they do it on the internet. Maybe they can't be punished like regular bullies because it is harder to track them.

4. No. Her freedom of speech hurts people.

5. She felt guilty, and wrong for hurting her bestfriend. Taylor's mother was also trying to find out who James was.

6. "Adds fuel to the fire" means that bullying back will even make the case bigger. I agree with this, but sometimes people just cannot hold their anger, and they bully back.

7. School should get involved to prevent cyberbullying.

1. During the first scene where taylor's mother said that doing anything online is not exactly private, she is referring to the fact that anything done online can be viewed by other people on the internet as well and I think she is right because from personal experience, everything I did online can be viewed by anyone such as my parents for example.

2. I think it's easier to say things through internet conversation than face-to-face conversation because from personal experience, the chances of getting away with saying anything is higher. I found myself much more confident at talking online rather than talking face to face because talking online is in a way, indirect and therefore making it easier for people to say whatever they want.

3. Bullies in schools usually gets punished like regular rule breakers such as suspension or sometimes, expelled. I think that cyber bullies get punished in the same way these days but only in some schools because cyber bullying is hard to trace since evidence of the bullying is usually hard to trace and controlling what people say online is close to impossible.

4. I think Lindsay's dad is acting stupid because of his ignorance. He probably says that his daughter can say anything online because it is her right and he is right but there are limits. He thinks it is okay because as long as it is not face to face, everything is alright because he never thought that cyber bullying is the same as bullying. In my opinion, cyber bullying is the same as bullying and could impact people the same way as bullying would.

5. In my opinion, Samantha admitted that she was James because she feels guilty and bad over what she did and she just never thought that her mean post would actually impact her best friend's life so greatly.

6. I think he meant that insulting someone back when they have insulted you would just lead to more insults and fights that would just worsen the situation. I don't think I agree with him because there are people who will insult you over and over even if you don't respond to them. I think fighting back and voicing your opinion is good although I agree that voicing your opinion negatively can worsen the situation.

7. I think schools should be more involved in preventing cyber bullying. I am not sure what SWA have done about it because I am not sure if bullies eve exist in SWA but if there are bullies, I think the most appropriate thing that everyone can do is report cyber bullying to the school and hope that they can fix the problem.

1. Taylor's mother says "What you do online isn't exactly private" I think she meant that even though nobody is looking at what she is doing now or looking at her in real life people still know who she is, and what she does. Also her some information is being known by other anonymous people. I think that statement is true because when we do something related to online such as social network services we usually use our real name to be recognize by our friends or someone else.

2. I think it's easier to say things through internet conversation rather than face-to-face conversation because through internet we are not looking at each other face where we feel much comfortable and we get time to think how we want to reply back to it. However in face-to-face conversation we are looking at each other and have to talk back right away.

3. I think bullies should get punished as what the school policy tells. I don't think cyberbullies should be punsished like regular bullies. They can't be punished like regular bullies because they have bullied in different way therefore the cyberbullies should get punish something related to do with social network services or online service.

4. Missed class

5. Missed class

6. 'Adds fule to the fire", It means that it just cause more trouble or it expands the trouble bigger therefore even though someone has bullied you you just need to keep calm by not bullying back because after you bullied them back they will bully you back again.

7. I think schools should get more involved in helping to prevent cyberbullying because nowadays many students uses technology such as social network services where we interact with each other through online. SWA didn't do much about this issue however SWA has a counselor where we can go and discuss if there are any concern that we are thinking about, about anything.

1. It means that when we do something online, people can see what we did and do something towards it. Since the it's true, when you're doing something online consider the effect that will not benefiting you
2. I think it's easier bully someone online than face- to face because when we bully someone face to face they can fight us back if they're mad. However, when we bully someone online they can't hit us back since we are not around them.
3. Usually bully get suspended from school or even worse, expulsion. I think, cyberbullies should get punished because the one that get bully will feel sad and get depression. However, it's really hard to punish cyberbullies because usually they use fake account that we can't trackback.
4. I think her father is not doing his job properly as a dad. When we know someone doing something bad to other people, we should stop it and talk about the problem that make that thing happen.
5. I think samantha feel bad to taylor, because her joke is already crossed the line.
6. When someone bully other people and when the bully fight back then the problem will gets bigger and bigger. If this continue to happen then maybe every students will be bully each other.
7. I think our school should help preventing cyberbullying so we will create a peaceful community in our school.

1. I think she meant that what we did online is not private, so maybe all of the people will know what we just did or we always did on the internet. This is true, because some of the people have the way to go into your account or computer (Hacking) to find out what are we doing in the internet, the history of the website that we just opened.

2. It's better to talk in the internet, because sometimes we can be anonymous and the person that we are talking to don't know who we are. So, we can say anything we want with other people think that we are stranger.

3. They don't really get punished, but I think that cyber bullies need to be punished, because it is same like regular bullies, it hurts people.

4. Missed Class

5. Missed Class

6. I think that "Adds Fuel to the fire' means that it can make us have more trouble and I agree with it, because if we got bullied, we need to stay calm and just forget about it. If we fight back, like in regular bullies, the other person will bully you back with a worst plan.

7. I think that school should get more involved in helping students from cyber bullying. The school haven't really done a lot of things to prevent from cyber bullying, just keep telling us to be careful when we are on the internet.

3. Bullies get punished by Youth Detention Center or they get warn by the policeman. If they bullies people after they warned from the policeman, they will in big trouble. Punishment of cyber bullying is weaker than real bullying because cyber bullying gives mental shock but real bullying can get hurt or harm the body.

7. In my opinion, school should get more involved in helping to prevent the cyber bullying because most of people who get cyber bullying, never tell to teachers or their parents because they are afraid that people who bully will bully more if they tell the truth to the teacher so school have to do live individual vote or individual meeting with the student so students can tell the truth silently.
